    Hello everyone.

The use of flags has always been the means of communication excellence by the pirates to describe their intentions.
    - The black flag with skull belongs to the pirates to indicate to vessels to stop the ship and to surrender.
    - Red flag with skull belongs to the pirates to indicate to vessels that the fight won't leave no mercy.
    - The white flag is a sign of peace.
    - A beaten ship down it's flag
    ...

A visual communication is necessary in this game to minimize misunderstandings between crossing players.
I therefore suggest to embed flag in the game to allow players to communicate instantly. Since this way of communication is already international, I think there won't be the problem of langages. Although we would face two players at the same time, the message will always be acnowledged.
In addition, the game will succeed more in relationship between players while immersing themselfs deeper into the world of pirates.

In terms of implementation, it might be added like the icons for selecting cannonballs and harpoons as a new icon for the selecting flag. It would then propose the following choice:
    - A black flag icon to skull to mean that the player is dangerous and well-armed but still remains open to a deal between players.
    - A red flag icon to skull to mean that the player will fight without any mercy.
    - A white flag icon to indicate that the player don't want to fight.
    - An empty icon for a lowered flag to signify the player remains neutral.

The selected flag could be displayed next to the name of the player, with his rank.
But beware, this is just a visual communication and not a law. And it should be big enought to be quickly and clearly identified.

    No,
Chat works better and we are not real pirates. Please note not everybody knows this. It makes it harder it self. My reason voting no.

when you are playing in english version of the game, your global room chat is limited to the english version. Just try and notice that there are many french player who's talking in the global room chat when you play the game in french version and you won't see them in the english version. And if you are facing for exemple to a stranger player you won't be able to communicate with him in less than 5 second (enough time to sink or to be sinked), the time you need to select the player and choose to send him a private message (if he will even notice your message). Useless total war for eternity may be anounced between you without reason.
But the visual flag won't have this communication limit, and require not so much time to be understood. we just need to link the flag icon with the explenation of his meanning to teach everybody about this way of communication.

Nice idea but i'm afraid a working system has already been implemented by the use of an ahab.

  7. trust me, not many players would bother looking at a flag, but if they did a white flag is going to get you sunk. I think flags are a good idea to convey aggression, as in a black flag saying "Bring it on" or a red flag that says "PMS, hit me if you dare" but a white flag is just going to bring out the bullies.

I *do* think that we should be able to create our own flags and shields as designs for our guilds. In our personla profiles, it looks like in our that may have been intended once. Pirates of bygone ages were very gaudy sorts.

  8. ahabs aren't easy to sink--I agree with Roary on this one.
