  1. In March, 1693 Marie-Ann du Pres met Dutch pirate Laurens de Graaf:

Deported from Brittainy as a debtor
Marie-Anne found love with a pirate
    married and then lost him
to a duel of honor, killed by another buccaneer.

To avenge his death she challenged his killer
also to a duel to death and when
he drew his sword to repair his honor
she drew her pistol and he, stunned,
stood down saying that fighting a lady was not for him

But press for his blood she did and he,
somewhat in admiration but mostly valuing his life
    Proposed marriage !

Her will was so strong that she was thereafter known
as Anne Dieu-le-Veut—what she wanted she obtained
….as if God also willed it so

For seven years she and Laurens fought, oh yes they fought
    side by side
each taking command of their pirate ship in battles with the finest ships
two kings could send against them.

I propose a celebration of these nuptials one day at the end of this month, March, their wedding anniversary.

In honor of Anne in particular, it should be a day of double skulls in arena and open sea--after all, the female is the deadlier of the species.

  8. Well BP, you missed the wedding anniversary date, but this could still be a cool celebration for Valentine's Day.

  9. Oh c'mon BP--I wrote a poem for this forum! At least consider this for Valentine's Day?
