  1. What is cannon deviation (scatter) and how does it work?

    The scatter indicates how likely it is for your cannon to miss. Instead of indicating the hit chance (strike), it shows you the chance of missing. That means: the lower the scatter, the better your cannons will hit.

    Example:

    * Bombastics Scatter: 30

    * Cannon slots on ship: 50

    You minimal hit chance is calculated as follows:

    (100% Strike – Cannon Scatter) / 100% Hits) * Equipped Cannons = minimal hit chance

    Example: Bombastics and 50 Cannon slots: ((100% - 30%)/100)* 50 = 35

    Of course you do not always hit with your minimal hit chance. To calculate youractual hit chance, the following will happen:

    A bonus will be added to your minimal hit chance.

    Here is the calculation:

    Coincidental number within the range of 1 to (equipped cannons – minimal hit chance)

    Example: Bombastics (50 Cannon Slots – minimal hit chance 35 = 15) Coincidental number within the range of 1 to 15 = 7

    (7 is a coincidental number. It could have been every number between 1 and 15 because 15 is the limit set by the number of equipped cannons minus the minimal hit chance).

    To calculate the final hit chance, the following math needs to be done:

    Minimal hit chance + Bonus

    Example: Bombastics 35+7 = 42 Hit Chance

    This calculation takes place with every shot.
     
  2. How is the scatter calculated with different cannons onboard?

    If you have different cannons onboard your ship, an average scatter value will be calculated.

    Example:

    Your ship has 50 cannon slots. Onboard your ship, you have:

    * 20 x Bombastics (Scatter: 30)

    * 10 x Eagle Cannons (Scatter: 20)

    * 20 x 9-Pounders (Scatter: 70)

    For each type of cannon in turn, its respective scatter is multiplied by the number of cannons fitted of that type.

    Bombastics: 20 * 30 = 600 Eagle Cannons:10 * 20 = 200 9-Pounders: 20 * 70 = 1400

    Now the sums are added and divided by the total amount of cannons onboard.

    (600+200+1400)/50 = 44

    This means that your scatter in this example would be 44%. Now you need to use above calculation to calculate the minimal hit chance.

    (100% Strike – Cannon Scatter) / 100% Hits) * Equipped Cannons = minimal hit chance

    Example: Bombastics and 50 Cannon slots: ((100% - 44)/100)* 50 = 28

    The minimal hit chance is 28. Continue with the above calculation. “Coincidental number within the range of 1 to (equipped cannons – minimal hit chance)”

  3. How do improvements influence the hit chance?

    Here are two examples of improvements and how they reduce your cannons’ scatter:

    * Might of the Eagle Set (-12% Scatter)

    * Figure Head Tonatiuh (-10% Scatter)

    These items give a special buff. This buff reduces a certain percentage of your cannons’ scatter.

    Example:

    50 Eagle Cannons (Scatter 20)

    * With Figure Head:

    Cannon Scatter – (Cannon Scatter * Buff %) = New Cannon Scatter

    20 – (20*0,10) = 18%

    * With Might of the Eagle Set Bonus:

    20 –(20*0,12) = 17,6

    * With Figure Head and Might of the Eagle Set Bonus:

    The calculation is slightly different here. The improvement buffs are added and are then reduced from the cannon scatter.

    Cannon Scatter * Figure Head Buff = Bonus 1

    Cannon Scatter * Might of the Eagle Set Bonus = Bonus 2

    Cannon Scatter – (Bonus 1 + Bonus 2) = New Cannons scatter

    20 * 0,10 = 2 20 * 0,12 = 2,4 20 – (2+2.4) =15.6%

    At the moment, this constellation is the optimal constellation of buffs with which you can reach a minimal cannon scatter of 15,6 %.


    Note: The above calculation's can also be applied to harpoon's
